They write about why the person deserves the award. Real Superheroes. They repeated this process with three different drafts. Describe a day when you were grouchy. What do they argue about? Some of us have cultivated a love for writing and will write a poem or a narrative for our own enjoyment. Let family members or friends try to guess the answers. Describe what the ultimate birthday party would look like if you could do anything you wanted.

What do they argue about? Write about an adventure you might have. The only way to really emphasize the importance of considering the audience is to give students multiple opportunities to share their work with an audience.

Try mixing it up with different kinds of publishing projects. Each writer thinks about what their assigned subject is good at and gives them an award for that trait or skill. This checklist was directly linked to the rubric, which helped with consistency and made the revision work more meaningful.
